About us

Alfred Child & Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) is one component of the Department of Mental & Addiction Health at Alfred Health.  We are a community-based service providing comprehensive assessment, treatment and case management to infants, children, adolescents and young people up to the age of 25 years of age presenting with behavioural, emotional, psychiatric or developmental difficulties.

CYMHS provides clinical services in partnership with a wide range of service providers to achieve the best possible outcomes. Alfred CYMHS is committed to active participation by families and young people in evaluating and improving our services.

This position is located on the Inner South Sector team which is a multi-disciplinary team that works collaboratively within the service and with families and the community to deliver client centred care. Our team values the input from the nursing discipline to inform our work across the team as well as case managing your own case load of young people from 5-25 years.

What you’ll be doing

As a senior nurse on the team you will be involved in the provision of clinical assessment and intervention, case-management and single session/brief therapy with children and young people with emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties and their families. Embedded into the role are responsibilities for the provision of discipline specific advice and clinical support to clients and clinical services internal and external to CYMHS.

This position is also one of a number of positions that cover intake, consultation and liaison activity as part of a broader clinical role that is divided equally between general CYMHS clinical casework/therapy and the intake/consultation roles.  The intake clinicians are often the first point of contact for CYMHS and hold primary responsibility for managing referrals to CYMHS.  This includes screening all referrals according to triage scales and performing risk assessment to ensure prioritisation of response.

The position will work within the program/team structure at Alfred CYMHS.  As a senior position the role includes participation in leadership activities within the service as well as supervision of staff, and students.
