Alfred Health is the main provider of health services to people in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and is also a major provider of specialist services to people across Victoria.  The Health Service operates three outstanding facilities: The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham.

An opportunity exists for a dually qualified specialist in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia to take up a full-time position at Alfred Health as Head of the Pain Service and Staff Anaesthetist, Alfred Hospital. Successful applicants will be expected to work in both disciplines and in a variety of clinical situations across the four campuses of Alfred Health; The Alfred Hospital, Alfred Centre, Sandringham Hospital, and Caulfield Hospital. The successful applicant will lead a group of six pain specialists, 4 pain liaison nurses, 2 research nurses and 1-2 pain fellows. Close collaboration with the Chronic Pain, palliative care, drug and alcohol and psychiatry teams has been established and is viewed as essential to service provision.

An adjunct appointment at Monash University is available, subject to academic qualifications and track record. Applicants must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria, and hold Fellowships with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Demonstrable relevant knowledge in clinical anaesthesia is required, and significant experience in managing major trauma is essential. Applicants must also meet Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Anaesthesia.
