Alfred Mental and Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of area mental health services which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.


This is an exciting position to work within the Homeless Outreach Psychiatric Service (HOPS).  We are seeking a highly motivated and inspired Mental Health Support Worker who wants to make a difference to join our multidisciplinary team. The position is based at St Kilda Road Clinic. HOPS provides specialist psychiatric clinical services and intensive support for adult clients aged 25 -64 years who are experiencing mental illness and homelessness, itinerancy or are at risk of homelessness. A high proportion of HOPS clients have comorbid substance use disorders.  You will be a member of the HOPS multidisciplinary team and work closely with other HOPS clinicians to assist with non-clinical tasks to support consumers with accessing housing & NDIS supports, attending appointments and increasing socialisation. There will be a focus on minimising harm, fostering rapport and supporting recovery goals and promoting health, wellbeing and social wellbeing.


  • Knowledge and skills in a broad range of recovery focused psychosocial interventions relevant for the service population who are difficult to engage and have complex needs including mental illness and homelessness.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgment and seek advice and consultation where appropriate.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively liaise, consult and negotiate with clients, families and carers, as well as a broad range of health professionals and community agencies.
  • A high performer, client focussed, motivated and enthusiastic.


  • A current driver’s licence is required to undertake this role.
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health or equivalent.
  • A current Working with Children’s Check is required for this role
  • A Police check will be required.
