The Department of Clinical Haematology includes the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD). ACBD is one of the country’s largest blood-related research and clinical centres. The primary mission of the ACBD is to improve the understanding of blood-related diseases and to provide world- class services and treatments for patients afflicted with such diseases
This new position will oversee the management and day to day of a new genomics platform with the CCS with integration across all of Monash University. The role will involve supervision of junior scientists in every aspect of next generation sequencing from sample QC to library preparations and running of NGS machines. The candidate will need experience in a broad range of techniques including WES, WGS, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, and ChIP-seq. Expertise in all of these is not essential. There is an opportunity to work closely with very strong research teams that also have expertise in these techniques, so there will be shared learning experiences. The role will include supervision of maintenance of equipment including Illumina sequencing machines: Mini-seq, Next-seq 500 and Nova-seq 6000. Expertise in Base Space run set up and some expertise in data management is essential. The position is integrated with the Bioinformatics Core of Monash University, so there is an opportunity to develop bioinformatics skills appropriate to different projects.
The role will require good organisational skills and good team management skills. There will be overall responsibility for financial management and billing of customers (with support from finance team).
Skill in generation of different library types (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, etc.)
Experience in running Illumina Sequencing machines
Experience in sequence data management, QC, mapping, data analysis
Basic skills in computation to run scripts on high performance computing (HPC) clusters
Good organisational and management skills
