Occupational Therapist – Grade 2 (Acute Medical Specialities Stream)

Fixed term 11/01/2021 – 25/06/2021

The Department

An exciting opportunity exists for a Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to join the dynamic acute Occupational Therapy department in the Medical Specialties stream at The Alfred Hospital. The medical specialties stream provides occupational therapy service to multiple units within the hospital including respiratory medicine, haematology, oncology, palliative care, transplant services (lung and heart), gastroenterology, infectious diseases, cardiology and surgical units.

The Role

The Grade 2 occupational therapist will be expected to work across multiple units and hence multiple teams, so strong communication and team work skills, and a collaborative approach to service delivery are important skills in this role. The successful applicant will be working closely with and delegating tasks to Allied Health Assistants who support the occupational therapy service, and will also have the opportunity to work on quality projects and working parties appropriate to their area of expertise. In addition, opportunity exists to supervise Grade 1 staff and students and to contribute to service development and planning.

Skills 

  • Specialist assessment and intervention
  • Strong team work skills
  • Provision of supervision of junior staff and students
  • A minimum of 3 years clinical experience in occupational therapy
  • AHPRA registration, and eligibility for OTA membership
  • Understanding of research frameworks and literature search skills
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License (unrestricted)
