Alfred Health’s Acute Physiotherapy Service provides physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital. Alfred Health’s Acute Physiotherapy Service is the amalgamation of The Alfred Physiotherapy Department and the Sandringham Hospital Physiotherapy Department.
The Acute Physiotherapy Service is organised into five functional streams, namely: Intensive Care, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, PAN (Progressive Illness, Aged Care and Neurosciences), and Sandringham. The first four streams are located at The Alfred site, with the fifth and latter stream based at the Sandringham site.
The Acute Physiotherapy Service consists of approximately 62.0 eft and 120 people. The Acute Physiotherapy Service has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. It remains strongly committed to further pursuing excellence in physiotherapy.
Alfred Health’s Acute Physiotherapy Service, in partnership with Caulfield Hospital, is a Physiotherapy Clinical School, for both La Trobe and Monash Universities.
Alfred Health’s Acute Physiotherapy Service is committed to improving the level of evidence for physiotherapy best practise, through clinical research.
The Victorian Adult Burns Service (VABS) plays a significant role within The Alfred Hospital’s range of services and is the state-wide provider of burns care for all adults with complex major burn injuries in Victoria, as well as many people with less severe burns. It offers clinical leadership in all aspects of adult burn care and supports The Alfred Hospital’s role as one of the two adult trauma centres serving Victoria.
The Alfred admits over 300 burn patients and reviews over 1000 outpatients each year with the service providing acute care, post-operative rehabilitation, ongoing outpatient care and secondary reconstructive surgery while supporting consultation and education services across Victoria.
The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Burns) is responsible for the ongoing development and provision of physiotherapy services to the Victorian Adult Burns Service in consultation with their stream leaders. This position is also responsible for overseeing the provision of physiotherapy services to the Plastics Unit, which is led by the Senior Physiotherapist (Burns & Plastics – Grade 2).
The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Burns) is responsible for the supervision and professional development of Grade 1 and Grade 2 staff assigned to their units, as well as education of physiotherapy students.
The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Burns) has an important role contributing to the development of individuals, the clinical team and the physiotherapy service through good leadership, teamwork and communication.
