The Department

Alfred Health’s Acute Physiotherapy Service provides physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital.  The Acute Physiotherapy Service is organised into five functional streams, namely: Intensive Care, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, PAN (Progressive Illness, Aged Care and Neurosciences), and Sandringham.  The first four streams are located at The Alfred site, with the fifth and latter stream based at the Sandringham site.

The Role:

The Senior Clinician (Orthopaedics) Grade 3 physiotherapist is responsible for the ongoing development and provision of physiotherapy services to orthopaedic patient population, both inpatients and outpatients. The Senior Clinician (Orthopaedics) physiotherapist is responsible for the integration of a number of associated workforce innovation initiatives along the musculoskeletal – orthopaedic patient’s continuum of care.

The Senior Clinician (Orthopaedics) are responsible for the education of physiotherapy students and the supervision and professional development of Grade 2, Grade 1 and AHA staff assigned to this area. In addition, the Senior Clinician (Orthopaedics) physiotherapist is responsible for the co-ordination of the musculoskeletal inpatient weekend physiotherapy service.

The Senior Clinician (Orthopaedics) physiotherapist is also responsible for and expected to be engaged in research and / or quality activities within their specialised area of interest, or more broadly for the physiotherapy service.

The Senior Clinician (Orthopaedics) physiotherapist has an important role contributing to the development of individuals, the clinical team and the physiotherapy service through good leadership, teamwork and communication.
