The Alfred Cardiothoracic Surgery service provides a broad range of highly specialised procedures including cardiac and pulmonary transplantation, mechanical circulatory support and pulmonary endarterectomy. The Service is a leader in transplantation and performs over 700 cardiac cases annually and a significant thoracic workload providing services to both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Applications are invited for the Professor and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery. This is a joint appointment with Alfred Health and Monash University.
The Professor and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery will be responsible for clinical and research leadership. The appointee will oversee excellent clinical care, whilst supporting Alfred Health's teaching, research and clinical governance programs. As the Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Monash University the appointee will serve on the Executive of the Central Clinical School, Department of Surgery. Subject to the person’s field of research and credentials, the appointee would be expected to develop and maintain a research program that is integrated within the Advanced Health Research & Translation Centre.
Applicants must be legally qualified practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery is required as well as meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
