Alfred Mental and Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of area mental health services which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

Services are provided by a number of teams located at the Alfred Hospital (Commercial Road, Prahran) and at St. Kilda Road Clinic, Alma Road CCU in St. Kilda, the Child & Adolescent Service located in Moorabbin, Aged Mental Health Service at Caulfield Hospital and Headspace service in various locations in Victoria.  Alfred Mental and Addiction Health also works in partnership with relevant local non-government and social support agencies.


This exciting new role requires knowledge and expertise in exercise physiology combined with an understanding of the complexities of adult mental health. This position will join a growing physical health team, which supports the adult mental health community teams to address the physical health needs of their clients.

Alfred Mental and Addiction Health is determined to improve the physical health outcomes of those with a serious mental illness and the exercise physiologists will be an integral part of this change. This position will embark on the challenge to build confidence and motivation amongst the staff to embrace physical activities as therapy for their clients.

The physical health needs of the client group will be met through both individual and group programs. These programs are to be designed with the goal of improved cardio and strength fitness leading to better health outcomes. Programs will involve assessment, implementation and outcome measures.

Service delivery will be supported by a multidisciplinary team; however will also need a high degree of autonomy and flexibility. Programs implemented need to focus on a level of sustainability in the community taking into account affordability, access and enjoyment.



  • Registration with Exercise & Sport Science Australian (ESSA) as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist
  • Relevant work experience
