The Department

STAREE ( is a double-blind, randomised primary prevention trial investigating whether daily active treatment of Atorvastatin versus placebo will enhance disability free survival (death, dementia and disability) and prevent major cardiovascular outcomes in healthy participants aged 70 years and over.  The trial is primarily funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia. 

The Role

The Alfred is seeking a full-time Research and Administrative Support Officer to join the 'STAtins in Reducing Events in the Elderly' (STAREE) clinical trial. The main responsibilities of the Research and Administrative Support Officer will be supporting a variety of tasks which will include being responsible for ensuring ethics submissions and reports, providing support for keeping documents up to date, supporting the applications of grants, reconciling credit cards, assisting with printing and filing of documents and other tasks as directed by the senior managers .


  • Highly organised with proven ability to appropriately prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
  • High-level of written and verbal communication skills, experience in customer service and business ethics;
  • Computer literacy in databases, word processing and spreadsheets;
  • Sharp attention to detail and evidence of ability to adhere strictly to protocol and working guidelines;
  • Thorough understanding of human research ethics principles;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, along with a demonstrated capacity to work with others in
  • the workplace in a collegiate manner;
