DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Infectious Diseases undertakes innovative research into the microbiology, transmission dynamics, epidemiology, prevention, and management of infectious diseases, including in the area of antimicrobial resistance. Our multidisciplinary team is undertaking a large, multicentre trial examining a nurse-led antimicrobial stewardship intervention in residential aged care facilities.

POSITION:

This position will assist with bio specimen collection in residential aged care facilities for the START Research Program - Stepped-wedge Trial to increase antibiotic Appropriateness in Residential aged care facilities and model Transmission of antimicrobial resistance. This is a large, multicentre study to improve antibiotic appropriateness and minimise transmission of antimicrobial resistance in residential aged care facilities. This will be a landmark study funded by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) that has the potential to change practice and policy in antibiotic practices within nursing homes and help stop the rise in superbugs.

The position will work with the Clinical Trial Coordinator – The START Research Program and members of the research team to assist with bio specimen collection and, documentation in residential aged care facilities. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Academic

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a high level of communication skills, data collection and management skills, flexibility, organisation and the ability to work independently across a range of tasks. The incumbent will be part of a dynamic, capable and research group conducting research that aims to improve patient management and patient well-being, with direct clinical relevance.
