The Department

Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides a comprehensive range of pathology testing, consultation services and collection services to clinicians and patients of Alfred Health. The Anatomical Pathology Unit is located at The Alfred campus and comprises Histopathology, Special Histopathology, Cytopathology, Neuromuscular pathology and Mortuary. A broad range of specimens are processed by the Unit. Commencing in 2019 APS entered into a collaborative agreement with Northern Pathology Victoria for provision of Anatomical Pathology services to The Northern Health. This position presents an exciting opportunity to be involved in the expansion of services to our Northern Health partners.

The Role

This new position within Anatomical Pathology requires an experienced, highly motivated Scientist to join our Cytology laboratory. The cytopathology workload is entirely non-gynaecological in nature so we are looking for someone with experience in non-gynaecological specimen preparation and screening.  As part of a dedicated Cytology team the ability to participate in both specimen preparation and screening rosters is essential. The successful applicant will need to be highly organized, self-motivated, with an eye for detail and possess high standards for quality and accuracy. Previous experience with ROSE at radiological guided FNA, EBUS and EUS procedures is highly desirable. If you are able to bring experience with liquid based practices in non-gynaecological specimen processing this will be greatly valued. Possession of CTASC or CTIAC post graduate qualifications is essential.

Skills

  • CTASC or CTIAC
  • Experience in non-gynaecological Cytology screening, minimum 5 years.
  • Experience in non-gynaecological cytology specimen preparation
  • Experience in ROSE procedures for FNA, EBUS and EUS

APS supports professional development and this position provides an opportunity to join a supportive team and work towards a leadership role.
