Alfred Health

Alfred Mental and Addiction Health  is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

Services are provided by a number of teams located at the Alfred Hospital (Commercial Road, Prahran) and at St. Kilda Road Clinic, Waiora Clinic in Armadale, Alma Road CCU in St. Kilda and the Child & Adolescent Service located in Moorabbin.


  • Full Time Position
  • Permanent ongoing
  • Based at Alma Road Community Care Unit (ARCC) in St Kilda
  • Rotating roster over 7 days and 24 hours
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 

The Department:

The single most important goal of Alfred Mental and Addiction Health  is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process.

The Role:

ARCC currently has an exciting opportunity for an experienced psychiatric nurse who would like to gain experience in the community to cover a maternity leave position. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated understanding of the recovery model and will apply this model in practice. You will also have relevant knowledge and demonstrated skills in managing safety, mental state assessment, care planning and the capability to provide responsive direct care and evidence based interventions to support clients participating in the program to engage in self-management. You will work a rotating roster over 24 hours, 7 days a week and will be required to consult, liase and negotiate with patients, carers, family members and other professionals.

  • Demonstrable record of safe and appropriate clinical practice with sound risk and mental state assessment skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of key aspects of Mental Health Act and other relevant Acts.
  • A high performance, team player who is customer focussed, motivated and enthusiastic.
  • A current driver’s licence is essential.
