The Department

The position sits within the mental health and addictions inpatient program comprising 58 beds. The program has 4 statewide psychiatric intensive care beds and provides acute care to patients who stay an average of 17 days. You will work within a dynamic MDT environment that prides itself on the delivery of personal centred recovery-oriented care.  You will be part of a supportive and dynamic psychology department with excellent access to supervision and professional development.

The Role

The Clinical psychologist will provide a full range of services to patients of the acute mental health service. We are looking for a highly organised, dynamic person who thrives on variety in the workplace and enjoys being part of a caring and committed multi-disciplinary team

Skills 

  • Skills and experience in formal psychological assessment (personality/diagnostic) of people with a psychiatric disorder or suspected disorder.
  • Skills and experience in the assessment and treatment of people with severe psychiatric disorders including those with dual diagnosis, during an acute phase of illness.
  • Have a recovery-oriented approach to working with people with psychiatric disorders
  • Skills in providing group therapy
  • A best practice approach to working with people with first episode psychosis
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, families and other team members to ensure best outcomes for clients.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Skills and experience in the provision of supervision and training (P-3 applicants)
