The Alfred hospital is a Melbourne icon.  For more than 140 years it has been providing leading health care services to the people of Victoria and beyond.  The Alfred Foundation (TAF) creates and nurtures philanthropic partnerships between the community and The Alfred, generating funds which will lead to better health care.


The Development writer s responsible for leading and managing high-quality fundraising proposals for major and principal gifts.  The incumbent will also develop, manage and write impact reports to exist funders to demonstrate the positive impact of major donations.  The incumbent will apply high-level expertise to tailor the proposals and reports to high net worth individuals and trusts and foundations on a range of complex and diverse donor opportunities across the hospital.  


  • Degree qualifications in a related relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
    • Experience in a relevant field (i.e. Marketing Communications/Public Relations, Journalism,) or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training/education
    • Ideally a minimum f 3 years’ experience in related fundraising or a marketing position
  • Outstanding written communication skills, including experience in writing with clarity, professionalism and impact across numerous formats.  You should be able to motivate others to act, convey complex and sensitive information clearly and adapt to the needs of varied audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in marketing communications and fundraising
  • Highly-developed relationship management skills, including the ability to interact with and gain trust and cooperation from internal and external stakeholders at various levels
  • Proven ability to work with a sense of urgency to accomplish specific objectives and to conclude work which presents obstacles and requires perseverance
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail to ensure high-quality and accurate written communications, and maintain this whilst working under time pressure
