The Department

The Alfred hospital is a Melbourne icon.  For more than 140 years it has been providing leading health care services to the people of Victoria and beyond.  The Alfred Foundation (TAF) creates and nurtures philanthropic partnerships between the community and The Alfred, generating funds which will lead to better health care.

The Role

The Bequest Planned Giving Manager is a senior member of the philanthropic fundraising team.  Under the broad guidance of the Head of Philanthropy, the position holder will design and implement a comprehensive strategy, plan and program to significantly grow our confirmed bequestors, prospect pool and planned gifts to The Alfred.

The position will lead, manage and support the Bequests Planned Giving Officer to develop the Bequest Planned Giving program, build successful partnerships and is required to work collaboratively and strategically with all program areas of The Alfred Foundation.



  • At least 5 years of combined management and bequest fund-raising experience
  • Demonstrated ability to use the latest techniques to identify, cultivate and solicit bequest prospects and a track record of confirming intended bequest gifts, along with a proven ability to manage and maintain key stakeholder networks
  • Specialised knowledge of the principles of philanthropy and Wills and Estates.  This understanding is extended to a demonstrated understanding of bequest fundraising and the key issues that need to be considered in the development and management of Bequest and Planned Giving Programs


  • Knowledge of current State and Commonwealth tax laws and other legal issues relating to estate planning.
