The Department

This position is for the Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Care (UGICC) Project, which aims to assess the impact of a care coordination intervention on improved survivorship. A registry-based randomised control trial (RRCT) design will be used to determine whether the systematic measurement, identification and management of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in clinical practice, coupled with information support to patients, improves health outcomes for patients with upper gastrointestinal (UGI) cancers, compared to usual care.

 The Role

The Cancer Care Consultant will be a centralised point of contact for participants in the UGICC Project, enrolled at multiple health service sites across Victoria. You will be an intermediary, a liaison between patients and clinicians (GPs, specialists, palliative care and other allied health), and act as a resource for patients to assist in the management of their UGI cancer symptoms. The role will also encompass a range of research-related and project coordination tasks. You will be working closely Monash University’s research team and with the participating health services in Victoria. The successful candidate will be a highly skilled registered nurse, experienced in clinical oncology.

Skills 

  • A tertiary qualification and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
  • A postgraduate qualification in Cancer Nursing, Advanced Nursing or related field and/or substantial experience in nursing oncology/radiation
  • At least 5 years’ experience/demonstrated knowledge in clinical nursing
  • Substantial management/project coordination experience, with demonstrated ability to coordinate and plan the care of people with cancer across the continuum of care
  • A valid working with vulnerable people clearance or the willingness to apply for one if appointed to the role
  • A current Australian Drivers’ licence, and access to own vehicle is needed (travel reimbursement available)
  • Current and satisfactory Police Check or willingness to apply for one if appointed to the role.
