The core skills of the department relate to epidemiology (the study of the distribution, risk factors and causes of disease) and its application to problems in clinical medicine and public health. The department provides a strong research capability in a series of areas of particular relevance to infectious disease control including large database skills, emergency care research, therapeutics (including clinical trials, post-marketing surveillance and pharmaco-economics).

The Role

A full time Clinical Trials Manager position has become available at the Alfred Health site. The role will be supporting the STAREE ( trial, a double-blind, randomised primary prevention trial investigating whether daily active treatment of Atorvastatin versus placebo will enhance disability free survival (death, dementia and disability) and prevent major cardiovascular outcomes in healthy participants aged 70 years and over.  The trial is primarily funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the leadership team in this world first trial. The candidate will perform a range of complex research-related activities that play a critical role in supporting the delivery of Clinical Trial research project outcomes.  This includes high-level computing, administrative, financial and operational activities as well as staff leadership responsibilities.  The incumbent is a subject matter expert and provides strategic and operational advice to senior academic and professional staff. In addition, this position has considerable interaction with internal and external university collaborators, including liaising directly with and updating Clinical Trial Steering Committees, communicating with divisional Senior Management and Operations Committees.
