The Department

The Department of Immunology and Pathology at Monash University is focused on understanding basic immunological processes, as well as inflammation, and represents one of the premiere immunology research groups in Australia. The department has various integrated research facilities, new in vitro and in vivo models, and state-of-the-art cell sorting (flow cytometry) to advance our knowledge of immunology, and discover new treatments for autoimmune diseases, arthritis, diabetes, and asthma. The Department of Immunology has >60 people at various stages of their scientific career, has achieved considerable scientific success in the last 4 years, and has secured generous funding.

The Role

The Molecular Biologist  will work within the Department of Immunology and Pathology, Monash University, located in the Alfred Centre. He/she will be responsible for

  • Isolating and making quality control assessments nucleic acid from a wide range of sample types
  • Independently generating diverse types of sequencing libraries from nucleic acid samples
  • Operating cutting-edge instruments including next generation sequencing machines


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 year of experience
  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR, Next-generation sequencing, DNA/RNA extractions,Capillary electrophoresis)
  • Ability to follow complex protocols
  • Experience in operating next generation sequencing instruments
  • Attention to detail, good organisation and communication skills
