The Department of Clinical Haematology includes the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD). ACBD is one of the country’s largest blood-related research and clinical centres. The primary mission of the ACBD is to improve the understanding of blood-related diseases and to provide world-class services and treatments for patients afflicted with such diseases. The Centre evolved from a highly successful research program combined with a concentration of clinical activities in blood diseases at the Monash Department of Medicine. The Centre is a part of the Central Clinical School of Monash’s Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. It is located at the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct (AMREP) in Prahran. The colocation of the research activities with other AMREP partners, including the Baker Institute, coupled with the establishment of a fully integrated haematology consortium between Bayside Health, Southern Health and Eastern Health represents a major step forward in advancing the objectives of the ACBD.
The Research Assistant / Life scientist will perform a range of research-related activities (including administrative and operational responsibilities) to support the delivery of research program outcomes in the field of haematology, more precisely on Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
Our ideal candidate will be motivated, with a high attention to detail and able to work well within a team environment and with minimal supervision.
Prior experience in animal handling, experimental techniques with rodents (such as IV injections, gavage, blood taking, surgery, femoral aspiration) and animal ethics legislation.
Previous experience laboratory experiments including preparation, sampling, data collection & analysis including flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, histology, tissue culture and molecular biology techniques, able to work flexible schedule.
Perform and assist in animal (mouse/rat) experimental procedures, health monitoring, record keeping and animal ethics;
Perform and assist in laboratory experiments including preparation, sampling, data collection & analysis including flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, histology, tissue culture and molecular biology techniques; preparing results & reports;
Planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and set and meet deadlines;
Assist in the preparation of documentation (e.g. for grant applications, research and conference papers) requiring the conducting of literature reviews and/or analysis of data;
