Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory, to inpatient and home and community based services.

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) provides specialist clinical care to people with severe mental illness and addictions.  The Program has a primary responsibility for residents of inner South Eastern metropolitan Melbourne, but cares for all patients seeking its services. 

The AMAH Program comprises:

  1. The Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit (IPU), including the Alfred Psychiatry Intensive Care Statewide Service (APICSS)
  2. The Adult Community & Rehabilitation Psychiatry Service, including PARC & CCU
  3. The Alfred Hospital Liaison & Emergency Psychiatry & Addiction Service
  4. Caulfield Hospital Aged & Liaison Psychiatry Service
  5.  Headspace-Child & Youth Mental Health Service (H-CYMHS)
  6. Monash-Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc), in partnership with Monash University.

The successful applicant will have at least a half time clinical appointment to one of the five clinical program streams of AMAH. 

As Clinical Director, QIS, the appointed psychiatrist will collaborate with the Manager, QIS to ensure that AMAH develops and implements an annual Quality & Business Plan, delivers care to national standards, and is accredited according to the EQuIP protocol.  S/he will support the QIS team to respond to complaints, undertake incident reviews and interpret risk & quality data.  The Clinical Director will lead improvement projects identified as priorities and contribute to strategic planning that reflects best practice, and places Alfred Health at the forefront of patient care.  S/he will support the Program Director in chairing the Risk & Quality Committees and any other Alfred Health Governance committees required by the Program Director.

Applicants must be legally qualified practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and a Fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Psychiatry is required as well as meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Psychiatry.
