  • Research Assistant
  • 12 months Fixed Term (renewable)
  • Part time – 30.4 hours per fortnight
  • Grade 1 Scientist

The Department

The Department of Immunology and Pathology is one of the leading academic immunology departments in Australia, dedicated to rapidly translating new discoveries into innovative treatments.

The Role

The Research Assistant will work within the Department of Immunology, Monash University, located in the Alfred Centre.  She/he will be responsible for:

  • maintaining parasite life-cycles in mice and in culture;
  • liaising with research nurses to collect and process clinical research samples; and
  • database management.


The Research Assistant should be highly motivated with a focus on excellence in process and judgment, take pride and responsibility for their work, be outstanding communicators and enjoy working in a young dynamic environment.

  • Draw on specialist knowledge and experience in cellular and molecular immunology to provide research support towards the laboratory research program.
  • Maintain helminth parasite life cycles in mice and laboratory cultures.
  • Provide administrative support for research projects and programs, including maintaining/using information systems, databases, websites and record-keeping systems.
  • Have excellent problem-solving abilities, including through the application/use of analytical and diagnostic skills, discretion, innovation and professional expertise to solve problems.
  • Have well-developed communication skills, including the ability to prepare a range of documentation for various audiences and to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders.
