The Department of Clinical Haematology includes the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD). ACBD is one of the country’s largest blood-related research and clinical centres. The primary mission of the ACBD is to improve the understanding of blood-related diseases and to provide world-class services and treatments for patients afflicted with such diseases. The Centre evolved from a highly successful research program combined with a concentration of clinical activities in blood diseases at the Monash Department of Medicine. The Centre is a part of the Central Clinical School of Monash’s Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences. It is located at the Alfred Medical Research & Education Precinct (AMREP) in Prahran. The co-location of the research activities with other AMREP partners, including the Baker Institute, coupled with the establishment of a fully integrated haematology consortium between Bayside Health, Southern Health and Eastern Health represents a major step forward in advancing the objectives of the ACBD

The overall aim of the position is to "Improve Health outcomes for patients with Myelofibrosis", a 5 year MRFF funded grant funding by the NHMRC. The job involves interrogation of new drivers of blood cancers (MPNs) and new mechanisms by which JAK-STAT signaling transforms blood cells. The work will involve genomics assays (ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq), generation of pre-clinical models of disease (CRISPR/Cas9 gene-edited mice and xenografts), analysis of primary samples from patients (RNA-seq, RT-PCR), FACS, drug assays. The successful candidate will be part of a laboratory of 8 staff and integrate closely with the clinical genomics and clinical trials components of the ACBD. There will be a component of clinical sample preparation and analysis as part of a biobank in MPNs and as part of companion molecular studies for early phase clinical trials.
