Alfred Psychiatry sits within the Division of Ambulatory Services & Mental Health at The Alfred. It comprises both adult and child & adolescent services and a research unit. There is an important relationship also with the aged mental health service at Caulfield General Medical Centre (CGMC).
The position is based at Community Care Units, Alfred Psychiatry, Alma Road, St. Kilda. The CCU operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The CCU provides a graduated model of residential rehabilitation for people with severe mental illness and associated disability unable to be supported in less intensive community options. Fifteen beds are provided on-site at the CCU with support, clinical services and case management provided by the clinical program with a further 5 step down beds provided by MIFV, where clinical services and case management delivered according to each individual clients’ recovery plan.
The model is underpinned by interdisciplinary care. Periods of transition for clients moving into or out of the CCU may be supported by care coordination from the community arm of the complex care programs. The incumbent will have a demonstrated understanding of ‘recovery’ and will apply the model in practice. Relevant knowledge and demonstrated skills in mental state assessment and knowledge of residential rehabilitation and practice is essential to undertake this role.
Comprehensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation is required, together with well-developed interpersonal skills to effectively consult, liaise and negotiate with patients, carers, family members, and other professionals. The position requires a high performer who is customer focused, a team player, and is motivated and enthusiastic The position involves a rotating 24 hours shift roster with hours scheduled over 7 days per week
- Registration with AHPRA and hold a current practising certificate.
- Postgraduate qualifications in nursing or working towards this is desirable.
