The Department

Cochrane Australia is one of 45 centres around the world that form part of the global not-for-profit Cochrane health research network.

Our key activities include:

  • training researchers at courses and workshops around Australia
  • raising public awareness of the high-quality health evidence that Cochrane produces and publishes online in the Cochrane Library
  • hosting a biennial symposium and other events to promote learning, debate and the exchange of ideas inside and outside academia
  • translating health research into policy and practice, summarising evidence and producing guidance for policy makers and health professionals
  • working with government and other health organisations to advocate for evidence-based health policies and practices in Australia and around the world.

Cochrane Australia is part of the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University and is based in St Kilda Road. This role will involve working closely with colleagues across Cochrane nationally and internationally, and with staff at Monash University.

About the role

Reporting to Cochrane Australia’s Co-Directors, you’ll have a diverse range of responsibilities and tasks across our events, operations and publications portfolios.

Key tasks include:

  • overseeing the smooth day-to-day running of the office and ensuring invoicing, accounts and payments are up-to-date using online systems
  • making travel bookings and scheduling meetings (often across multiple time zones) to fit in with the demands of national and international teams
  • managing the operation of the centre’s program of training courses and biennial symposium, including administering online registrations using Eventbrite
  • assisting in the preparation of large, complex documents and presentations with text, images and graphs for training workshops, grant applications and conferences, and updating and maintaining web content

About you

You’re a self-starter with great all-round administrative skills. You enjoy the challenge of organising events and workshops, and can independently manage ordering, invoicing and financial reconciliations. Ideally an expert with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), with a good grasp of the basics of adding and resizing images and graphics, you’re at home working with everything from large, complex documents to financial spreadsheets to name tags and program booklets.

You’re able to build and develop effective working relationship with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, can prioritise competing tasks and enjoy working with a high degree of independence.
