Alfred Psychiatry is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.
Services are provided by a number of teams located at the Alfred Hospital (Commercial Road, Prahran) and at St. Kilda Road Clinic, Waiora Clinic in Armadale, Alma Road Community Care Unit in St. Kilda and the Child & Youth Service located in Moorabbin as well as Headspace youth services based at Elsternwick, Bentleigh, Frankston, Dandenong and Narre Warren. Aged and Liaison Psychiatry is located at Caulfield campus of Alfred Health.
Alfred Psychiatry also works in partnership with relevant local non-government and social support agencies.
The single most important goal of Alfred Psychiatry is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process
This role is responsible for coordinating the De-escalation and Minimisation of Aggression (DAMA) training across Alfred Psychiatry, providing expert guidance, training, coaching and ensuring regular targeted training is available to all staff working across Alfred Psychiatry programs/sites. Training programs will vary according to specific area needs and the capacity to assess, develop and deliver a multi-pronged approach to aggression management training is required.
The DAMA Coordinator role will facilitate and provide ongoing development, review, coordination and evaluation of aggression management training and ensure the content it is consumer and recovery focused, trauma informed and consistent with a least restrictive model of intervention. Focusing on early intervention, de-escalation and utilising sensory modulation along with physical intervention for high risk areas, the training will be evidence based and consistent with contemporary models of conflict management such as Safewards.
SKILLS + EXPERIENCE
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent
- Recent experience working in Mental Health Nursing/Education
- Post graduate studies in Mental Health
- A current National Police check
- Experience in training and assessing Aggression Management to a variety of participants in both inpatient and community setting
- Qualifications at Master degree level or working towards
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Program management experience
- A current driver’s licence
