The Department
The Project aims to deliver a shared Alfred/Monash Pathology service. It will consider the benefits and risks of this venture considering previous explorative work carried by the two health services as well as information gathered throughout the project development. The project will run in conjunction with broader pathology system reform being undertaken by the Department of Health. Underpinning this project is the establishment of an operating model for the shared service, including operational and clinical frameworks, quality and safety systems, corporate support services and a shared laboratory information system and various technology components. 
The Data Engineer will be an Alfred Health appointment on behalf of the Alfred/Monash Shared Pathology Project. This position will report to the Senior Solution Architect and while this role is specifically to work on the LIS implementation project, this role will also work in close collaboration with the broader Alfred/Monash Shared Pathology Project team.
The Role
The Digital Pathology Data engineer will assist in expanding and optimizing our data architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams. The ideal candidate is an experienced data wrangler who enjoys optimising data system and building them from the ground up. The data engineer will support our solution architect, integration lead and SMEs on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent thought ongoing projects. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.

The key responsibilities of the Data Engineer include: 

  • Support the project team in defining and implementing data migration plan
  • Support the project team in implementing data archiving solution
  • Standardize best practices in the reporting space and adhere both internal and external stakeholders to the follow best practices
  • Provide ad hoc database reports as requested

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Tertiary and/or Industry Qualifications in Information Technology 
  • Experience in assisting in the development, planning, management, and implementation of IT projects including familiarity with best practice industry standards
  • Knowledge of business processes
  • Experience in supporting and assisting with system design and development from business requirement analysis through to project implementation and handover to operational teams 
  • Experience in the Health Sector (preferably in Pathology)
